"PLAY WITH THE PROS" GOLF OUTING ANNOUNCED AS UPTOWN CIVITAN 2010 FUNDRAISER TO BENEFIT TWO AREA YOUTH GROUPS

JACKSONVILLE, FL (Dec 29, 2009) – Members of Uptown Civitan Club of Jacksonville have announced that they will host a golf tournament next year to benefit two youth development organizations, The First Tee of Jacksonville and The First Tee of St Johns County. A two-day golf outing, PLAY WITH THE PROS, will be held at TPC Sawgrass on February 21-22, 2010, including an 18-hole four-person tournament on the Stadium Course with professional athletes.
Every other year the all-female Uptown Civitan Club selects a local charity as a recipient for a major fundraising event. After reviewing 15 requests, the Jacksonville and St Johns County chapters of The First Tee were selected as its flagship project for 2010. Past flagship projects have included various events to benefit SeaMark Ranch, The Bridge of Northeast Florida, Grove House of Jacksonville, Pine Castle, Inc., PACE Center for Girls of Jacksonville and others. The proceeds from the fund-raising events enabled these organizations to build recreation and athletic facilities, furnish rooms, pay-down a mortgage on a home, and help with operating funds. More than $500,000 has been raised to help these agencies provide service to their constituents.
PLAY WITH THE PROS will include:
- Sunday, Feb 21 – Party with the Pros kick-off reception… an evening of fun, prizes, games, food and drink. Photos taken with the Pros, test golf skills (putting, chipping, swing analysis, etc.)
- Monday, Feb 22 – Golf tournament on TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course with professional athletes (to be announced in January)… caddie, valet service, locker privileges, lunch and post-round awards celebration.
Registrations and sponsorships are now available for February’s PLAY WITH THE PROS. Individual registrations are $500 and team registrations are $2,000 per foursome. Uptown Civitan Club of Jacksonville Uptown Civitan has been honored a number of times in Jacksonville by the Civic Round Table as the outstanding civic club in the city. This golf outing is the first time Uptown has worked with The First Tee chapters for fundraising.

The mission of The First Tee of St. Johns County is to impact the lives of young people by providing an affordable and accessible facility where they can learn to play golf and learn the valuable life skills associated with the game. The Chapter occupies a three-hole facility and clubhouse off SR 207 just west of I-95. It is open seven days a week for play. Through its junior membership, after-school, and special event programming, the St. Johns Chapter provides instruction and playing time for over 500 St. Johns County children, ages 6-17.
