The 2010 First Tee Players kicked off Saturday at The
First Tee of Jacksonville nine hole golf course with 15 players in the 13-18
year-old age division and 19 players in the 8-12 year-old division. Both
divisions were full of strong, experienced golfers, but at the end of the day
it is always the golf course that will put the players to the test.
Troy Kennedy (St. Augustine, Florida) led the 8-12
year-old age division shooting a Birdie on the first hole par-4, an Eagle on
the fourth hole par-4, hitting his drive from the tee box onto the green, just
missing a parent spectator putting him 3 under par half-way through the
tournament. Troy
would Birdie the last hole par-3, shooting a total round of 33. Prince
Cunningham (Jacksonville, Florida)
would finish tied in second place with Trebor Mangum (Jacksonville, Florida)
both shooting a total 9-hole round of 36. Prince birdied the first hole par-3,
Mangum shooting par on all nine holes, with the exception of a bogey on the third
hole par-5 and a bogey on the last hole par-3.
Blair Waters (Jacksonville, Florida) led the 13-18
year-old division, shooting a birdie on the on the fourth hole par-4 and a
Birdie on the eight hole par-4, with a total round of 34 to beat out the field
for The First Tee Players. Kelly Allen (Jacksonville,
Florida) finished in second
place, shooting bogeys on the seventh hole par-3 and ninth hole par-3 finishing
with a total round 36. Allen narrowly beat Corey Price (Jacksonville,
Florida) for second place by one shot, and
Greg Price (Jacksonville, Florida)
tied Eric Havixbeck (Jacksonville,
Florida) with a total round of 38
for fourth place.
The First Tee Players Tournament was a success, all
players playing their best and doing it in a respectful and sportsmanship type
manner. Players in both divisions hit amazing drives and shots that would make
any professional golfer jealous.
